Who We Are
The Mountain Training Center (MTC) was started during the winter of 21/22 at a small kitchen table between teaching avalanche courses & ski guiding. We had the thought to create an educational platform for online avalanche education after noticing students struggling to retain the firehose of information they were receiving during zoom-based lectures. At around an hour and a half in, students were either dozing off or no longer engaging. And that makes sense, there is only so much the brain can retain. So instead of a single live lecture, we decided to create online products that students could watch at their own pace and come back to throughout the season.
Now, The Mountain Training Center is proud to host a variety of courses including Digital Backcountry Mapping. Avalanche Awareness, Avalanche REC 1 Refreshers, Avalanche Rescue Fundamentals and Emergency Mapping. Additionally, the Mountain Training Center offers small to medium size guiding services the ability to purchase their REC 1 avalanche lectures through us for a small fee, saving the operation money and giving avalanche instructors their nights back.
We are extremely proud to have created for-credit courses with The University of Utah, a school hosting over 35,000 students. Additionally, we routinely partner with ski patrol teams and guide services to provide training on digital mapping and avalanche education.
The Mountain Training Center is also the home of the Certified Guide Search, the only mountain guide directory strictly for AMGA Certified Guides. Pairing the public & our students with top of the line mountain guides from across North America.
